How to Find a Support Group

Contact a local hospice to see if they have open groups.

Some therapists link their groups on PsychologyToday.com.

Many groups are now virtual - a quick Google search can turn up quality links. Try searching for your area, the nature of the death, and your relationship. For example: “cancer, Philadelphia, parent, support group.”

Inquire about the training of the person who is running the group and their approach! These are completely valid questions to ask. Some groups are “therapy” and some are “peer support,” both can be helpful but they are quite different.

If you have a spiritual affiliation, your local church may also host a grief support group.

If you are a woman or non-binary person, Philly Death Doula Collective hosts a monthly Grief Circle. Cost is sliding scale. Email phillydeathdoulas at gmail dot com for more.
