Squeegee meditation

A favorite visualization or meditation I’ve been using myself as well as with clients is a squeegee meditation.

First, imagine a squeegee, the kind you might use to clean the glass walls of your shower — or at the gas station. Throughout our days, we get “splashed” with all kinds of matters, most of them not ours. Other people’s worries, concerns, anger, and feelings of all types. Sometimes it feel like those things cling to us and weigh us down. Perhaps we have a stressful job, perhaps it’s our home life that is distressing. Either way, most of us have to (appear to) seamlessly and easily transition from one space to another, and this emotional detritus can build up… Like soap scum.

That’s where the squeegee comes in. Close your eyes, if you wish, and imagine your squeegee starting at the very tip top of your head and squeeeeaking off each layer of other people’s and other environment’s stuff. Run the squeegee down the entirety of your body as many times as needed, until you feel that any heaviness you carry is your own, or is something that is purposeful to you right now. Remember to take nice deep breaths while you’re doing this! As you clean, your light — your inner light that had perhaps been dimmed by all these layers of grime — starts to shine brighter again. The you of you is more visible.

Then take your squeegee in your hands and wipe it off with a towel until it’s clean and ready to use again the next time you need it.

Have visualizations or meditations been helpful for you? Did you know that you can, on your own or with help from a professional, find new ways for your brain and imagery to bring increased sense of calm and peace? Let’s do it!
